Sanya: The Tropical Paradise of Hainan

Sanya on Hainan Island is China tropical beach destination, often called the Hawaii of China. With year-round warm weather, palm-lined beaches, and clear water, it draws millions of domestic tourists and increasing numbers of international visitors.

Yalong Bay

Yalong Bay is Sanya premier beach, with 7 kilometers of white sand and clear water. Luxury resorts line the shore. The beach is well-maintained and offers water sports. The setting is as tropical as any Southeast Asian destination.

Dadonghai Beach

Dadonghai is closer to downtown Sanya and more accessible. The beach is smaller but lively, with restaurants and bars. The atmosphere is younger and more casual than Yalong Bay. Sunset views are excellent.

Nanshan Temple

Nanshan Temple is a massive Buddhist complex featuring a 108-meter Guanyin statue standing in the sea. The temple grounds include halls, gardens, and a vegetarian restaurant. The scale is impressive, reflecting Buddhist devotion.

Yanoda Rainforest

Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone offers hiking through tropical forest, past waterfalls and viewpoints. The diversity of plants and birds is educational. The trails are accessible to casual walkers.

Tianya Haijiao

Tianya Haijiao means Edge of the Sky and Corner of the Sea. The site features rocks on the beach with poetic inscriptions. It is a romantic destination, popular for wedding photos.

Getting There

Sanya has an international airport with flights from across China and Asia. High-speed trains connect to Haikou. Winter is the peak season when northerners escape cold; summer is hot but less crowded. Plan 4 to 5 days.
